چکیده

We report the discovery of a luminous "yellow" post-asymptotic-giant-branch (PAGB) star in globular cluster (GC) M19 (NGC 6273), identified during our uBVI survey Galactic GCs. The photometric system is optimized to detect stars with large Balmer discontinuities, indicating very low surface gravities and high luminosities. spectral-energy distribution (SED) consistent an effective temperature about 6250 K gravity $\log g=0.5$. use Gaia data show that star's proper motion radial velocity are membership. One aim program test yellow PAGB as candidate Population II standard candles for determining extragalactic distances. derive visual absolute magnitude $M_V=-3.39\pm0.09$ star. This close agreement $M_V$ values found GCs omega Cen, NGC 5986, M79, narrow luminosity function. These objects four magnitudes brighter than RR Lyrae variables, they can largely avoid issues interstellar extinction problem I distance indicators. also second object M19, this one hotter "UV-bright" Its SED 11,750 g=2.0$. two have nearly identical bolometric luminosities, L/L_\odot=3.24$ 3.22, respectively.

Post-agb Stars in Globular Clusters and Galactic Halos

We discuss three aspects of post-AGB (PAGB) stars in old populations. (1) HST photometry of the nucleus of the planetary nebula (PN) K 648 in the globular cluster (GC) M15 implies a mass of 0.60 M , in contrast to the mean masses of white dwarfs in GCs of ∼0.5M . This suggests that K 648 is descended from a merged binary, and we infer that single Pop II stars do not produce visible PNe. (2) Yel...

Post-AGB stars as testbeds of nucleosynthesis in AGB stars

We construct a data base of 125 post-AGB objects (including R CrB and extreme helium stars) with published photospheric parameters (effective temperature and gravity) and chemical composition. We estimate the masses of the postAGB stars by comparing their position in the (log Teff , log g) plane with theoretical evolutionary tracks of different masses. We construct various diagrams, with the ai...

Galactic globular cluster stars : From theory to observationS

We use evolutionary calculations presented in a recent paper (Cassisi et al. 1997a: hereinafter Paper I) to predict B, V , I magnitudes for stars in galactic glob-ulars. The eeect of the adopted mixing length on stellar magnitudes and colors is discussed, showing that the uncertainty on such a theoretical parameter prevents the use of MS stars as bona de theoretical standard candles. However, c...

PG 1323 − 086 and PG 1704 + 222 – two post - AGB stars at high galactic latitudes

Two high galactic latitude B-type stars, PG 1323−086 and PG 1704+222, are analysed from low and medium resolution optical spectra and Strömgren photometry. A differential abundance analysis for He, C, N, O, Mg, Al, and Si reveals that the He abundance is close to solar while metal underabundances relative to the solar value of typically 1.3 and 1.2 dex for PG 1323−086 and PG 1704+222, respectiv...
